Curriculum Enhancements
Beyond the Classroom: Bringing Learning to Life at East Park Primary
At East Park Primary School, we believe that a child’s education should be an adventure that extends far beyond the four walls of a classroom. While academic excellence is our foundation, our curriculum enhancements are the sparks that ignite lifelong curiosity.
By connecting lessons to the real world, we ensure our pupils don’t just learn about the world—they experience it.
We regularly invite a diverse range of visitors to share their passion and expertise with our pupils. These include:
- Authors and Illustrators: Bringing literacy to life through workshops that turn readers into writers.
- STEM Professionals: Scientists and engineers who lead hands-on experiments, proving that the future belongs to those who ask "why?"
- Community Heroes: Visits from local emergency services and charities help our children understand citizenship and the value of helping others.
Our school trips are carefully designed to anchor the curriculum and pupils’ well-being providing:
- Context: Seeing a Roman ruin or a working farm makes history and geography come to life.
- Independence: Children build confidence and social skills by navigating new environments with their peers.
- Memories: We know that the lessons learned on a visit or with a visitor stay in a child’s long-term memory.
We are incredibly fortunate to have stunning grounds and our own woodland areas, as well as East Park right on our doorstep. We treat the local area as an extension of our school grounds, utilising it as a resource for:
- Science & Nature: Observing seasonal changes, undertaking forest school activities and learning how to look after our area.
- Physical Education: Utilising the vast open spaces for lay and sports running and developing team-building activities.
- Geography Skills: Mapping the local landscape and understanding our place within the community.
By weaving visits, visitors, experiences and the local environment into our daily learning, we foster a sense of pride and belonging in our pupils. They learn to respect and cherish their community and value the experiences they receive, enhancing their school experience.
